Times are tough all around, and it is important to remember that although it feels like you are alone, you are not. Many people, from all walks of life have found themselves facing unforseen hardships. Many have faced lay-offs, reduced income, medical issues or death of a family member which has affected them financially. The key to a positive resolution, and to ultimately prevent a foreclosure, is communication.

If you are behind on your mortgage or feel you are struggling to keep afloat, call your lenders loss mitigation department (also may be called home retention department) and explain the situation. They should be able to offer you options that fit your specific circumstances. However, keep in mind that when contacting these departments that you may in fact be sent to a call center where those handling the calls are not those that actually make decisions. Never be afraid to ask to speak to a supervisor or the Vice President of the loss mitigation department.
